22-Jul-2008 - Europoles expands to Africa |
| Signing of agreement in Algeria with German Chancellor Angela Merkel |
 |
As part of recent ceremonies at the highest political level in Algiers, Europoles CEO Hendrik Schulz has laid the cornerstone for the latest expansion of its mast and towers business. Within the context of the state visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Algeria, Europoles signed a joint-venture agreement with the company Cevico Spa, a subsidiary of the largest private Algerian corporate group, for the new joint venture Cevipoles Spa and for its future business in poles, masts, and towers. High-level government ministers and ambassadors of both countries not only welcomed this step by the traditional Bavarian company for construction of a production plant for concrete masts in the booming north-African country, but also promised extensive support for the project. As part of this effort, Algerian politicians consider it particularly significant that – in addition to about 300 jobs to be created by the joint venture – investment in a training centre for young people will take place along the lines of a model project already implemented at company headquarters in Neumarkt, Bavaria.
From its very beginning, the Europoles project in Algiers received outstanding support from the German Chamber for Foreign Trade (AHK) in Algiers, which crucially supported the entire endeavour with tremendous commitment and with an excellent political network. With this support, Europoles was able to effectively analyze the market potential, and to prepare an effective and detailed basis for its decision. Algeria, one of the world’s largest suppliers of gas and oil, has consistently invested its profits from this business in setting up and expanding infrastructural facilities. Examples here are investments in railway electrification, public power supply, and illumination of streets and roads: in such areas, these sustainable investments make it possible for the very young and quickly growing population of Algeria to move ahead into a promising future. Europoles is proud of being one of the first (and until now, very few) top German companies to make such contributions in Algeria with the latest in technology. Neumarkt, Germany, is increasingly becoming the centre of the world’s business in poles, masts, and towers.
